On April 9, 2019, the Faculty of Engineering held its third forum on emerging technologies entitled “Open Day for Telecommunications.” The topic is always a hit—especially when the speakers are leading experts—and that day was no exception! A crowd of 300 attendees was gathered at the Hadat-Baabda campus for the occasion.

Father Rector Michel Jalakh launched the conference with his speech. He explained how telecommunications allowed us to dream eyes wide open about disciplines we thought were out of reach in a small country like Lebanon and insisted on the importance of never losing sight of the human dimension. As for the Faculty of Engineering Dean, Chady Abou Jaoude, he revealed the cooperation between UA Faculty of Engineering and the Research Center in Lebanon in order to launch within a year “Cube 7”, the first satellite in Lebanon—all of this done with the participation and the funding of European universities.

From his part, the representative of the Minister of Communications presented Ogero’s upcoming improvements on the fiber optic project and pointed out that most recruitments at Ogero were made from UA’s reservoir of students, witnessing the high quality of its education.

After the inaugural speeches, the local and international key speakers participating in the event explored the various topics on the planning, such as large-scale networks, space and astronomy, V2V communication and embedded systems among others.
