On September 15, 2001, Antonine University (UA) inaugurated its second campus. Initially established in Zahle–Bekaa, it was later relocated to Nabi Ayla–Zahle on lands owned by the Antonine Maronite Order (OAM). By establishing its second site in the region, the Order reaffirmed its non-sectarian nature and its commitment to decentralization. In doing so, it also sought to address the academic needs of the people of the Bekaa region by enabling them to pursue their higher-education goals, in order to have a positive impact on their communities.
