Program Objectives
  • Provide professionals with an in-depth and multidisciplinary understanding of aging, covering medical, psychological, and social aspects.
  • Develop critical thinking and innovative problem-solving skills in addressing complex geriatric issues, by encouraging a curious and creative approach to both theory and practice.
  • Prepare students to intervene effectively in various elderly care settings, equipping them with the necessary skills for appropriate professional intervention—whether in institutions, at home, or in specialized units such as palliative care.
  • Ensure that students are able to assess and manage complex clinical situations, with a focus on practical clinical skills through internships and simulations, thereby integrating critical analysis for high-quality care.
  • Promote health and prevent illness in elderly people.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Specialist Diploma in Gerontology Nursing, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Sciences;
  • submit an academic and professional portfolio for review;
  • participate in an interview with the Head of the Department of Nursing Sciences (DNS) and the Program Coordinator;
  • have a French proficiency level of B1.3.

Evaluation Process

The evaluation system used to measure students’ achievement of learning outcomes varies depending on the type of course and is structured as follows:

 

Theoretical Courses

  • Continuous assessment: 30%
  • Knowledge test: 30%
  • Final exam: 40%

 

The passing grade is set at 60/100.

 

Practical Courses

  • Professional competencies: 70%
  • Educational approach: 30%

 

The passing grade is set at 70/100.

 

Diploma Requirements

The diploma is awarded upon successful completion of all program modules and the defense of an internship report, which requires a practical internship of significant duration and a formal presentation of the learning and experiences acquired.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

Upon completion of the Specialist Diploma in Gerontology Nursing, the student will be able to:

  • acquire up-to-date knowledge in the field of geriatrics;
  • develop nursing competencies in geriatric care;
  • effectively analyze complex clinical situations in the context of elderly care;
  • develop a shared understanding of issues, challenges, and care plans involving elderly people, their families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals;
  • analyze ethical and practical issues related to gerontological phenomena and work with elderly people;
  • support elderly people in the self-management of their well-being.
Job Prospects

This program enables students to develop expertise in nursing practice. The Specialist Diploma in Gerontology Nursing prepares students to enhance their skills in caring for elderly people across various settings, including long-term care facilities, home care, geriatric units, and palliative care units.
