The US Embassy in Beirut is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2026–27 Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program.
Each year, approximately 900 faculty members and professionals from around the world receive Fulbright Scholar grants to conduct advanced research and university lecturing in the United States.
Lebanese scholars may apply for affiliations with US institutions of higher education for 3 to 10 months, beginning in August or September 2026, depending on the host institution’s academic calendar.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Hold a Lebanese passport or a Special Travel Document for Palestinian Refugees.
Note: Selected candidates must submit a copy of their passport biodata page. US citizens, dual US citizens, or US Lawful Permanent Residents (green card holders) are not eligible.
- Hold a doctoral degree or equivalent professional training and be teaching at an accredited Lebanese institution of higher education at the time of application.
- Have English-language proficiency appropriate to the proposed teaching and/or research project in the United States.
- Be able to submit a Medical History and Examination Report after selection but before finalizing the grant.
Additional selection considerations:
- Preference is given to applicants without recent experience in the United States.
- Applicants should demonstrate cross-cultural adaptability, open-mindedness, and the ability to engage in mutual cultural exchangebetween Lebanon and the United States.

Required Documents
A complete application includes:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Project Statement describing the proposed research or teaching activity in the U.S. The project should contribute to advancing knowledge in the applicant’s field and be completed within a period of 3 to 10 months.
- Three Letters of Recommendation (minimum)
- Letter of Invitation or Support from the US host university (optional but strongly recommended)
- Copy of the Biodata Page of the Lebanese passport or Special Travel Document for Palestinian Refugees (for the applicant and any dependents)
