Principes pédagogiques

1. Knowledge Acquisition
It consists of the basic theoretical and general knowledge courses that are completed by tutorials.
The latter aim at providing students with the means to decipher, interpret and analyze the news on the basis of solid theoretical foundations while giving precedence to the seriousness and distance indispensable for any professional who is destined for a career in journalism.
Evaluation mode: mid-term and final written exams as well as weekly continuous assessments.

2. Savoir-faire and Competencies
These are practical training courses that place students in real-life professional situations, leading them to produce journalistic or communicative work, carried out under stress and with a tight schedule, individually or in teams. It consists of field work and / or in the faculty’s radio and TV studios.
At the end of their education path, students will have mastered all journalistic and communicative genres and will be provided with an extremely rich portfolio comprised of completed projects.
A professional internship of 100 hours is mandatory for graduation.
Evaluation mode: mid-term project, final project and weekly continuous assessments.

3. Soft and Interpersonal Skills
These are specifically designed courses related to ethics and professional conduct, the principles of which are, of course, an integral part of all other courses.
Evaluation mode: mid-term project, final project and weekly continuous assessments.

4. New Knowledge
These are research-based courses that address social science concepts, methods, and paradigms and culminate in the design of a preliminary draft of a scientific research proposal.
Evaluation mode: Final project and continuous assessments.

Assessment and Validation Principles

The passing grade for the different courses and projects is set at 60/100.
A student can repeat the same course a maximum of 3 times. Once the 3-time limit is reached, the student will be on an academic probationary status and will require the approval of the Dean and of the General Secretary to be entitled to pursue his studies in the program.
Assessment principles are selected on the basis of both content and educational objectives. Moreover, students will take a summative evaluation at the end of each course and a formative evaluation during the learning process.
The different learning assessments are obtained from:

  • continuous weekly assessments during sessions;
  • two-phase written examinations (partial and final exams);
  • defense juries or oral presentations; and
  • student self-assessments.

It is noteworthy to mention in this context that all learning assessments adopt a criterion-referenced grid-based approach.
Student assessment is carried out according to:

  • the thought process;
  • individual performance;
  • individual progress;
  • the finished product; and
  • team work.
