For decades, Lebanon has stood as a vibrant higher education hub in the Middle East, attracting students from the region and beyond. Today, despite the immense challenges, we firmly believe that our nation’s best days lie ahead. Now more than ever, we choose to demonstrate how education can be the guiding star that can light the way to a reimagined future. In truth, an investment in accessible education is an investment in the very future of society. By breaking the vicious cycles of poverty and inequality through empowerment via education, societies experience a profound renewal.
We are fortunate that our University stands at the heart of this journey. Rooted in our Catholic heritage, we are called to uplift humanity through teaching, research, and community service. It is my privilege, as Chancellor, to introduce you to an institution that embodies these aspirations—where, through every initiative and service, our core values of truth, excellence, diversity, integrity, responsibility, and beauty shine through. As a university community, we are united by a sacred vision: to nurture the integral human development of “all people and the whole person,” promoting solidarity in every aspect of our endeavors. We take pride in recognizing the dignity and worth of every individual entrusted to our care, and in preparing graduates to navigate the complexities of everyday life with justice, compassion, and moral courage.
At UA, the diversity of views is a precious asset guiding us forward, ensuring that no member of our extended family feels marginalized or excluded. Echoing the enduring words of the late Pope Francis, we are reminded that“We are diverse, we are different, we have different cultures and religions, but we are brothers and sisters, and we want to live in peace.” This powerful statement beautifully captures the spirit of diversity and inclusion that is central to our University’s mission.
