On September 28, the new Regional Director of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie in the Middle East, Mr. Jean-Noël Balébo, paid his first visit to the Antonine University where he was welcomed by Father Michel Jalakh, Rector of the University.

During this visit, the new regional director became acquainted with the committee of the UA Rectorate. He also reviewed several ongoing collaborations and reflected on methods to improve this partnership. The UA is, in fact, a very active member of the AUF, as it is proudly one of the few universities in Lebanon who actively use French in higher education.

This partnership between the UA and the AUF is centered on scientific research and provides support for thematic doctoral programs, scientific events, and research projects. It also aims at developing capacities for higher education and digital remote learning that is vital to the educational system, especially during the pandemic and the growth of internationalization.

Father Jalakh conveyed his wish to the AUF and northern member states to put in place urgent financial strategies to support the French higher education sector in Lebanon, especially in times of the economic crisis. Furthermore, he agreed with Mr. Baléo to do whatever it takes to strengthen the AUF-UA partnership, which is now as crucial as ever.
