    13 July 2024

On June 27, 2024, enthusiastic alumni and friends gathered at Antonine University (UA) to witness the long-awaited “Revealing the 2014 Time Capsule” event. This occasion transported attendees back a decade, sparking nostalgic memories and reigniting university spirit.

Hosted by Ms. Amani Abdel Samad, UA’s Alumni Relations Coordinator, and Mr. Elio Chammas, UA alumnus and TV Presenter, the event was graced by UA academic and administrative members, as well as several public figures.

Mr. Ralph Maatouk, UA alumnus and Executive Producer of several notable programs at LBCI, was honored with the UA Trophy and the Outstanding Alumni Award by Fr. Michel Saghbiny, UA’s Rector, and Mr. Rodolph Hilal, TV Presenter. These awards aim to celebrate successful graduates and inspire current students. Fr. Saghbiny then gave a speech highlighting the importance of the alumni community and the value of staying connected.

After 10 years buried beneath the Alumni Square at UA’s Hadat–Baabda Campus, the time capsule was finally revealed, generating a buzz of excitement. Alumni watched with bated breath as the contents were carefully removed, revealing a treasure trove of souvenirs:

    • Yearbooks and photos: Capturing the essence of student life in 2014, these familiar faces and bygone trends sparked laughter and reminiscing.
    • Student predictions: Sealed a decade ago, these predictions of the future offered a glimpse into the hopes and dreams of the Class of 2014.
    • Pop culture memorabilia: From movie posters to music CDs, these items provided a snapshot of the cultural landscape that defined 2014.

The event was more than just a trip down memory lane. It celebrated UA’s enduring spirit and the lifelong bonds forged within its walls. Alumni from all graduating years reconnected, forging new friendships and reminiscing about their shared experiences. The celebration also featured captivating musical performances by Class of 2024 alumni: Marie-Joe Matta from the Faculty of Information and Communication (FIC) sang, while Joanna Elezzi from the Faculty of Music and Musicology (FMM) played the piano.

The “Revealing the 2014 Time Capsule” event serves as a reminder of time’s ever-evolving nature. As UA grows and changes, the event solidifies the importance of cherishing memories and celebrating the University’s lasting legacy.

UA’s Vice Rector for Integral Human Development (VRIHD), Fr. Jean Al Alam, held the closing ceremony. He expressed his joy at having UA alumni back on campus and shared the significance of the Baby Olive Tree, which was given as a gift favor to all attendees.
