  • UA Hosted a Seminar on Oncology and Pelvic Health

    26 June 2024

The Department of Physical Therapy (DPT) at Antonine University (UA) partnered with the Lebanese Order of Physiotherapists (LOPT) to organize a one-day seminar on “Optimizing Women’s Well-being: Insights Into Oncology and Pelvic Health” at UA’s Hadat–Baabda Campus on June 15, 2024.

The event brought together distinguished experts and professionals from the fields of medicine, physical therapy, and physical education to address critical issues in women’s health, specifically focusing on oncology and pelvic health.

This scientific day attracted a large number of students and faculty members from different Lebanese universities, in addition to international and national professionals in the fields of physical therapy, physical education, and health. The seminar featured expert presentations, interactive sessions, and vibrant discussions that facilitated knowledge exchange and professional networking.

Participants gained valuable insights into the latest research and best practices in women’s health care through 2 informative panels: the Oncology Panel, which focused on the comprehensive care of breast cancer survivors, covering key aspects such as advanced surgical techniques and post-operative care, surveillance through effective monitoring and follow-up strategies, and innovative approaches in pain management to deal with chronic pain. The second panel covered Pelvic Floor Health, emphasizing the diagnosis and the latest research in pelvic floor dysfunctions, stressing the different treatment options available beyond Kegel exercises.

The seminar also featured 2 “Meet-the-Expert” sessions, which simplified the assessment and management from pre-operative to the ongoing surveillance phase in complex cancer surgery survivors.

Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to participate in an interactive session on core strengthening. This session provided practical exercises and techniques to enhance core stability, which is essential for maintaining a healthy pelvic floor and overall well-being.

For the second consecutive year, UA’s provided a platform for health researchers to share their work through poster presentations during the seminar. Two awards were presented: the Jury Award went to the poster entitled “Les facteurs de risque de l’incontinence urinaire et son impact sur la qualité de vie chez les femmes en moyen âge à la Békaa” and the Public Award went to the poster entitled “Health Related Quality of Life Among Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) Patients in Lebanon,” for their innovative approach and methodology among the poster presentations.

The seminar concluded with a memorable closing ceremony, celebrating the contributions of all participants and recognizing the outstanding research presented. The enthusiastic participation of attendees made the event truly impactful.

UA’s DPT looks forward to welcoming everyone back next year with new and engaging topics that promise to further advance the health field.
