UA Student Launches Sustainable Sports Equipment Startup “OUT” to Promote Environmental Responsibility in Lebanon

Elissa Dandan, a third-year student at the Antonine University (UA) Faculty of Sport Sciences (FSS), has launched her business “OUT,” which seeks to contribute to Lebanon’s economic and social development while actively protecting the environment – a mission that resonated deeply with her.

Elissa’s entrepreneurial journey began 4 months ago when she joined the Street Sports Incubator (SSI) program organized by GAME Lebanon and sponsored by the European Union (EU). The SSI is a non-profitable street sports organization dedicated to promoting sports and community development. Little did she know that this program would become a catalyst for her entrepreneurial success.

During the 4-month program, Elissa underwent extensive training and coaching sessions on business management and entrepreneurship. She honed her skills, developed her ideas, and gained valuable insights into the world of startups. Elissa’s unwavering determination and hard work paid off when she emerged as one of the winners of the startup competition, earning her the opportunity to bring her business idea to life.

The core concept of “OUT” lies in producing concrete and sustainable sports equipment, with table tennis tables being the first step. Designed to be sustainable and long-lasting, with a lifespan of over 50 years, these tables are not only the first of their kind in Lebanon, but also champion sustainability, addressing the pressing need to minimize pollution and waste.

The “OUT” tables offer customers 2 options: they can either choose from standard designs or customize their own, emphasizing Elissa’s competitive edge: personalized and tailored products. With more than 20 products ready for launch, Elissa has ambitious plans to expand her startup’s offerings. Every few months, she intends to introduce new, innovative sports equipment that embodies sustainability and durability. Through her efforts, she aims to create a positive impact, inspiring others to adopt environmentally friendly practices and showcasing Lebanon as a hub for sustainable sports products.

Elissa’s target audience is extensive and diverse, encompassing various educational platforms, individuals with personal spaces, federations, organizations, municipalities, treatment centers, hospitals, gyms, fitness clubs, universities, schools, institutes, and many more. Her vision is to reach and engage with as many people and institutions as possible, promoting the use of sustainable sports equipment and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

Acknowledging the significant role played by her University in her success, Elissa gratefully credits her Faculty and instructors, particularly Ms. Mayssa Bsaibes and Mr. Mounir Abou Jaoude, for being instrumental during her journey, supporting her entrepreneurial path, and helping her realize her vision of promoting sustainability in sports.

Elissa’s entrepreneurial journey is a remarkable achievement worth celebrating. Her startup “OUT” not only aims to revolutionize the sports equipment industry but also leave a lasting legacy of sustainability and environmental consciousness in Lebanon. It is a testament to her passion, dedication, and hard work, and a shining example of the entrepreneurial spirit in action.
