Revue des Traditions Musicales [Journal of Musical Traditions] (RTM), originally referred to as Revue des Traditions Musicales des mondes arabe et méditerranéen [Journal of Musical Traditions of the Arab and Mediterranean Worlds]. It is an international peer-reviewed journal co-published once a year in French and English by the Antonine University Press (Lebanon) and les Éditions Geuthner (Paris). On behalf of the Centre for Research on Musical Traditions (CRTM), attached to the Faculty of Music and Musicology of the Antonine University (UA), in cooperation with the UFR of Music and Musicology, Sorbonne University, and the Institute for Research in Musicology (IReMus, UMR 8223, Paris http://www.iremus.cnrs.fr/).
Aim and Scope
RTM aims to feature scholarly articles representing research about the living and/or ancient monodic modal musical traditions of West and Central Asia, North Africa and medieval Europe, from a general musicological and interdisciplinary perspective.
The journal's emphasis is on the musicological research work carried out on both sides of the Mediterranean in the field of modal monodic musical traditions, analyzing their practices and their theories, particularly in the light of generative grammatical and semiotic approaches of music phenomenon, and taking in consideration historical, anthropological, sociological, and aesthetical contextualization.
Cognitive research, in its transdisciplinary articulation between psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, linguistics, and artificial intelligence, is particularly solicited to investigate this musical material. This journal is also interested in studies on the transfer of research results to society, particularly in education, music therapy, musical interpretation, and the knowledge industry.
