Department Council

Functioning

  • The Department Council is required to hold meetings at least once a month, following a calendar established during the first meeting of the academic year, upon a request from the Head of Department who provides a meeting agenda.
  • A special meeting can be called by the Rectorship, the Dean, the Head of Department, or one third of the Council members.
  • The Head of Department serves as the chairperson of the Department Council. However, when the Dean participates in the meeting, they preside over the Council.
  • To have a valid session, the members must be notified at least one week in advance, and at least two-thirds of the members must be present not only at the start of the session but also during any deliberations.
  • The Department Council is required to submit a report to the Dean within a specified timeframe. The Dean then communicates this report to the Rector, the Faculty Council, and the members of the Department Council. The report is examined and validated at the beginning of the next meeting or through electronic means.

 

Responsibilities

The Department Council is responsible for assisting the Dean in their major functions, which include:

  • managing the Department’s curriculum processes, such as implementation of new programs and the periodic review of the programs, which should be submitted to the Dean via the Head of Department, and then forwarded to the Faculty’s Curriculum Committee for review, before being submitted to the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs (VRAA);
  • developing an annual action plan and a provisional budget of the Department, which should be submitted to the Dean for integration into the corresponding projects of the Faculty;
  • monitoring the implementation of teaching processes at the departmental level;
  • proposing scientific and cultural activity projects to the Dean, which should then be submitted to the Faculty Council for approval;
  • discussing and considering academic cooperation projects with external institutions, both on a temporary and long-term basis, which should be submitted to the Dean, who will subsequently seek approval from the Faculty Council;
  • ensuring the implementation of a quality assurance system.
Equivalence and Transfer Committee

Functioning

The Committee meets upon a request from the Head of Department or if a student submits a course transfer request.

Responsibilities

The Equivalence and Transfer Committee intends to:

  • assess the equivalence of studies and academic qualifications for the admission of new students to Antonine University (UA);
  • decide about the admission of students who had completed courses in other units.
Scientific Committee

Functioning

This Committee shall meet twice per year, upon request of the Head of Department.

Responsibilities

The Scientific Committee intends to:

  • promote cultural and scientific activities, as well as para-academic events;
  • consider the Department’s scientific contribution to conferences, seminars, or training sessions;
  • recruit invited speakers, finalize the scientific program schedule, review and select oral abstract presentations, and review and select a poster.
Advisory Committee

The Faculty Council, upon recommendation from the Head of Department, appoints a faculty Advisory Committee consisting of external experts from outside UA.

The Department Advisory Committee is subcommittee of the Faculty Advisory Committee. It comprises external representatives from the profession, the health system, and other relevant bodies where physical therapists hold significant roles. This Committee consists of 2 members.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Advisory Committee consist of:

  • providing valuable and pertinent information regarding the employment and growth of the physical therapy profession;
  • advising the Head of Department on the review of current programs as well as the development of new programs.
