The University Diploma in Basketball Coaching is intended to prepare a new generation of basketball coaches. It develops their skills in various areas related specifically to basketball training and coaching. It covers a broad range of basketball theories, including defense and offense, as well as mental wellness topics such as life coaching and mindset. It also develops skills and competencies in leading and managing teams and players.

This program aims to prepare basketball coaches, leaders, and program trainers to work with different types of teams, age groups, clubs, and schools involved in basketball.

Collaboration with the Lebanese Basketball Federation (LBF) and specialized international basketball organizations and federations allows students to acquire the knowledge needed to succeed in their basketball careers.

The program combines a theoretical component with an extensive practical field component, in addition to a mandatory internship that gives students the opportunity to gain successful basketball coaching experience.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in any field and a Level 3 coaching certification from the LBF*.

Admission requirements include:

• a coaching record for the past two years**;
• an interview with the Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences and the Diploma Program Coordinator;
• a cardiac stress test to ensure that applicants can perform physically demanding activities;
• a language placement test. An English B1.1 level or equivalent is required. Applicants with lower levels will have to take English remedial courses.

* The LBF certifies whether applicants fulfill the coaching level requirements.

** The record must be supported by official documents from previous and/or current employers.

Depending on the types of courses offered and their evaluative components, the system for assessing students’ achievement of course learning outcomes is set as follows:

Theoretical Courses Grade Distribution
The knowledge acquired by students in theoretical courses is evaluated through written assessments as follows:

60% final exam

40% midterm

Practical Courses Grade Distribution
The competencies acquired by students in practical courses are evaluated based on their capacity and pedagogical approach:

• 50% final project
• 50% pedagogical approach

The passing grade is set at 60/100 for theoretical courses and 80/100 for practical courses (some courses might require 100/100). The grade for practical subjects is distributed among the theory of practice score, the practical evaluation score, and the project score.

Graduation requires 360 hours of internship in a pre-designed and accredited basketball activity structure.

Students must defend an internship report at the end of the program.

By the end of the program, students will be able to:
1. Transmit ethical and social values through practicing different jobs in the field of basketball coaching.
2. Work in groups as well as individually on various projects, whether at a club, basketball academy, basketball program, school, and/or other sports institutions.
3. Communicate easily in English, both orally and in writing.
4. Use digital referencing tools and security rules for the acquisition, processing, production, and dissemination of information, as well as for better organization, planning, and evaluation of their tasks.
5. Master the fundamental techniques used in the different proposed types of basketball coaching activities.
6. Design and organize a class, team, workshop, or any basketball activity.
7. Manage and lead basketball team operations in different types of situations.
8. Promote and implement Agenda 21 and the Sustainable Development Goals in every approach to sports in general and basketball in particular.
