    11 April 2019

On Thursday, April 11, the Department of Nursing Sciences organized a conference entitled "Health at the heart of the community", including a series of exchanges held at Antonine University main campus.
Throughout this day, health experts such as Elie Aaraj (MENAHRA), Rima Shaya and Yara Hamadeh (Ministry of Public Health), Hala Najem (SIDC), Lizette Azar (HDF), Grace el-Haddad (Medicals at the Center), and Mona Nehmé (UA) spoke to an audience of attentive professionals.
During his opening speech, Reverend Father Michel Jalakh, pointed out that when talking about public health, people usually associate the term with basic healthcare. However, according to the latest studies, not only is this definition archaic and inadequate, but it is also counterproductive. On the contrary, many studies encourage us to adopt a more proactive and sustainable vision on public health, as they reveal to us that placing prevention and health at the heart of the community will be beneficial to everyone.
According to this logic, teachers and trainers are called to raise awareness on the issue among health professionals, decision-makers, and communities in general.
