  • IEEE Day 2025: Mini-football and Streetball Fiesta Brings Energy and Team Spirit to UA

    15 October 2025

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Antonine University (UA), in collaboration with the IEEE ComSoc Lebanon Chapter, IEEE Lebanon Section, UA IEEE Student Branch, and IEEE Young Professionals, transformed UA’s Hadat–Baabda Campus into a vibrant sports arena, joining forces with the Faculty of Sport Sciences to celebrate IEEE Day 2025.

Globally celebrated every year on October 7, with activities spanning over two weeks from October 5 to 18, IEEE Day recognizes the power of technology and collaboration. This year, the “IEEE Day 2025: Mini-football and Streetball Fiesta” brought that spirit to life through a friendly competition that merged technology with sportsmanship.

The event welcomed around 150 participants from UA and several Lebanese universities, who competed in streetball and mini-football tournaments held on the Campus’s basketball court and green field.

Beyond the thrill of competition, the Fiesta fostered new friendships and strengthened ties among students and instructors from different disciplines and institutions.

The matches were marked by high energy, teamwork, and fair play, perfectly embodying the IEEE spirit of collaboration and innovation. The mini-football games featured teams of five players and one substitute, while the streetball format gathered three players and one bench player per team.

The competition concluded with outstanding performances from all teams. In streetball, Lebanese University – Hadat secured first place, followed by Antonine University in second and Lebanese University – Fanar in third. In mini-football, Université La Sagesse clinched the top spot, with Lebanese University – Tripoli and Antonine University taking second and third place, respectively.

By promoting physical activity and collaborative engagement, this initiative supported SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reinforcing UA’s commitment to nurturing both individual growth and collective progress.
