The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) at Antonine University (UA) organized an Open Day for UA Societies, offering students an opportunity to engage with professionals in the fields of technology and engineering. The event encouraged students to explore and join the societies that best align with their interests—helping them develop technical skills, exchange knowledge, and stay informed about the latest industry trends. Each society presented its mission and objectives and welcomed a guest speaker to discuss a specialized topic within their respective field.
Huawei Segment: Insights Into the ICT Competition
The program opened with a presentation by Mr. Mohamad Sharara, Country Director, and Ms. Ruba Msheik, Public Relations and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ecosystem Specialist, both at Huawei Technologies Lebanon. Their session began with a brief introduction to Huawei and centered on the ICT Competition, highlighting the company’s educational initiatives and showing students how they can participate in international technology competitions. The discussion emphasized innovation, experiential learning, and the importance of collaborations between academia and industry in the ICT sector.
AI Society: Advancing Intelligence Through Data
The AI Society hosted Mr. Haidar Jomaa, a Certified NVIDIA Deep Learning Instructor, who presented “From Data to Intelligence: When Learning Machines See Beyond Us.” His talk explored how data-driven learning enables artificial intelligence (AI) systems to perform beyond human analytical capabilities. The session offered students a deep technical perspective on modern AI applications and their growing impact on automation and innovation.
Cybersecurity Society: Safe Coding Practices
The Cybersecurity Society welcomed Mr. Hasan Nahle, Founder and CEO of Youbee.ai, who delivered a session titled “Secure Coding From the Programmer’s Side.” He addressed the principles of writing secure software and the role of programmers in safeguarding digital infrastructures. The session encouraged students to adopt a proactive approach to security during the development process.
Robotics Society: Intelligent Systems for Smart Cities
The Robotics Society featured Prof. Roy Abi Zeid Daou, Full Professor of Mechatronics Engineering at Université La Sagesse, who delivered a talk on “Robotics in Smart Cities and Transportation.” His presentation examined how robotics technologies are being integrated into urban infrastructures to enhance mobility, energy efficiency, and sustainability. The discussion shed light on real-world applications of robotics and their role in advancing smart city initiatives.
Programming Society: Tools for Collaborative Development
The Programming Society hosted Mr. Ayla Hmadi, Certified Solutions Architect at Cardinal Health, who led a presentation on “Introduction to GitHub.” The session focused on the fundamentals of version control, project collaboration, and open-source development, illustrating how these tools enhance productivity, organization, and quality in modern software engineering.
IEEE Student Branch: Connecting With Global Communities
The event concluded with a presentation by the UA IEEE Student Branch, which encouraged engineering students to take part in IEEE initiatives to expand their professional networks and contribute to global research and innovation communities. The segment highlighted the importance of professional engagement and continuous learning for career development in the engineering and computer science fields.
