1981
The Antonine Maronite Order founded the Antonine School of Music (ASM).

1996
The Antonine Maronite Order founded the Antonine University (UA), to which the ASM is part of, and the Higher Institute of Music (HIM) at UA was created to teach music and musicology.

2001-2002
HIM welcomes its first students, registered to gain a Bachelor’s degree in music, approved by the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE).

2006
UA signed an academic cooperation agreement with the University of Paris-Sorbonne (IV), which paves the way for the development of the musicological research at HIM.

2007
UA founded the Centre for Research on Musical Traditions (CRTM). One of the main assignments of the CRTM is the publication of the annual musicological journal Revue des traditions musicales (RTM), in collaboration with the UFR of Music and Musicology of Paris-Sorbonne University. RTM became an international reference journal in the field of monodic modal traditions.

2008
The MEHE granted HIM approval to teach a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Musicology (over a minimum of 3 years, 90 credits,) with five concentrations, and a Teaching Diploma in Music and Musicology (1 year, 22 credits.) As well as, approval to teach Master 1 in Music and Musicology (maîtrise, 1 year, 24 credits,) with five concentrations, and a Master 2 in Music and Musicology (DEA, 1 year, 12 credits.)

2014
HIM established a second undergraduate teaching unit on the Mejdlaya–Zgharta Campus.

2015
HIM changed its name to be officially known as the Faculty of Music and Musicology (FMM).

2017
The Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education granted the FMM the right to deliver a sixth Bachelor and Master's degree concentration, called Music Therapy. The UA established its Centre for Early Music (CEM) within the FMM and began to teach a sub-concentration in Baroque music, inherent to the concentration in European Art Music.

2018-2019
The FMM became the leading higher education institute for music and musicology in Lebanon, in terms of student numbers.

2020
The European Agency Music Quality Enhancement (MusiQuE) has officially issued its programmatic accreditation to the FMM, which enabled it to become the first academic musical institution to be accredited in the Arab world.
