The Department of Technology in Computer Science at Antonine University (UA) has developed a well-defined set of Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) to ensure the quality of the program and the success of its graduates. These objectives are broad statements describing the professional accomplishments that students are expected to attain within a few years after graduation. They are designed to aid in the pursuit of our mission as being consistent with the needs and expectations of the program constituencies.

The PEOs are to prepare graduates who will:

• Practice and evolve as successful professionals and recognized leaders in the field of computer science.
• Pursue and complete graduate studies or continuous professional development.
• Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, ethical conduct, integrity, and civic responsibility in their personal and professional lives.

Candidates applying to the Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a Lebanese Baccalaureate or equivalent diploma.
• Demonstrate English language proficiency at a B1.1 level or higher.

The program employs a variety of teaching methods designed to promote both theoretical understanding and practical application. These include:

• Lectures: Delivered mainly to large groups, lectures introduce students to the theoretical concepts of the subject matter. They are highly interactive, solicit the students’ full participation, and stimulate their interest, thus greatly promoting the learning process.
• Practicum: Students are placed in real-life experimental situations, where they apply theoretical notions in a practical setting. Assessment focuses on their ability to transfer the acquired notions into practice.
• Tutorials: Students apply the knowledge gained during the lectures to a series of exercises and case studies. Evaluation is based on their ability to apply several theoretical concepts to solving exercises.
• Problem-based Learning: In small groups, students discover, study, and apply the elements of the subject by solving problems, using the resources provided to them. Assessment focuses on their ability to work in a group, analyze a problem, and propose solutions based on their acquired knowledge.
• Project-based Learning: Students design and complete a concrete project, individually or in small groups, by integrating knowledge and skills gained from one or more courses. Assessment emphasizes project management, teamwork, research, and the ability to propose and implement effective solutions.
  
  

The choice of teaching methods varies according to the pedagogical objectives of each course.

The assessment of student competencies and skills takes place throughout the semester and is carried out through:

• Examinations: Two-phase individual exams, including a midterm and a final exam. The examination schedule is communicated to students via an administrative circular.
• Coursework Assessments: Ongoing evaluations through tutorials, practicums, projects, quizzes, and other learning activities.

Each assessment carries a specific percentage, and together they account for 100% of the final course grade. The grade distribution is defined at the beginning of the semester and outlined in the course syllabus.

No make-up (retake) examinations are planned. Absences from assessments are not automatically compensated.

Enrollment in any course is subject to the successful completion of its prerequisite and mandatory courses.

The Program Learning Outcomes, articulated as Student Outcomes (SOs), are aligned with the Program Educational Objectives and designed to prepare graduates for professional practice in computer science.

Graduates of the program will be able to:

• Analyze a complex computing problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify effective solutions.
• Design, implement, and evaluate computing-based solutions that meet a defined set of computing requirements within the discipline.
• Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
• Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
• Work effectively as members or leaders of teams engaged in activities appropriate to the discipline.
