Wetlands are regions where water covers the soil or is present at or near the soil’s surface throughout the year or for varying lengths of time. They are important components of the water cycle and possess a unique mixture of environmental conditions. Wetlands are severely impacted, and due to human interference and mismanagement, half of the world’s wetlands have disappeared in the last century alone.
World Wetlands Day (WWD) is celebrated annually on February 2 to raise global awareness about the critical role wetlands play in both human and environmental well-being. The theme for WWD 2023 is “It’s time for wetland restoration,” which emphasizes the pressing need to prioritize wetland restoration and calls on an entire generation to take action to revive and restore degraded wetlands.
For these reasons, Antonine University (UA) and Human Environmental Association for Development (HEAD), in collaboration with Society for Protection for Nature in Lebanon (SPNL), are organizing a day full of activities to provide students with access to top industry experts and investors, all in a fun, relaxed environment.
