Father Michel Jalakh | 2017–23

Biography

Born in 1966, Fr. Jalakh joined the Antonine Maronite Order (OAM) in 1977 and was ordained a priest in 1991. He majored in philosophy and theology at Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas University (Angelicum) in Rome and studied music at Santa Cecilia and Alfredo Casella national conservatories.
In 1993, he was appointed as a Treasurer of OAM property in Rome, a Procurator General at the Holy See from 1999 onwards, and then an Officer of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. He then returned to Lebanon in 2008, where he served as the Administrator of Antonine International School in Ajaltoun and the Vice Superior of St. John the Baptist Monastery in Beit Mery.
Holder of a PhD in Eastern Ecclesiastical Sciences from the Pontifical Oriental Institute (2008), a Master’s degree in Oriental Ecclesiastical Studies in Liturgy (2001), a certificate in Ecclesiastical Real Estate Management (1997), and a Higher Diploma in Piano (1996), he has taught Ecclesiology respectively at Antonine University (UA) and the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK).
In 2009, Fr. Jalakh was a member of the Episcopal Commission for Ecumenical Relations, the Assembly of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops of Lebanon, and he was then elected Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) in 2013, and took office as Rector in 2017. In 2023, His Holiness Pope Francis appointed him as the Secretary of the Vatican Dicastery of the Eastern Churches, serving as the Cardinal Prefect first collaborator.
Fr. Jalakh has authored several books and articles, including notably Ecclesiological Identity of the Eastern Catholic Churches: Orientalium Ecclesiarum 30 and Beyond (Rome, 2014).

Father Germanos Germanos | 2011–17

Biography

Born in 1965, Fr. Germanos joined the Antonine Maronite Order (OAM) in 1989 and was ordained a priest in 1995. He earned his PhD in Theology from the Catholic University of Lyon (UCLy), was a professor of bioethics and sexual ethics at Antonine University (UA), Antonine Higher Institute for Religious Studies (Institut Supérieur Antonin pour la Formation Religieuse – ISAFOR), St. Paul Institute of Philosophy and Theology, and Sagesse University (ULS). Author of numerous articles on the emotional and sexual life of the youth, he published several books, most notably:

Father Antoine Rajeh | 2005–11

Biography

Born in 1960, Fr. Rajeh joined the Antonine Maronite Order (OAM) in 1978, was ordained a priest in 1985, and promoted by the Maronite Patriarch to the rank of Abbot in 2013. He served as Assistant General of the OAM from 2011 to 2017. Fr. Rajeh holds a PhD in Canon Law from the Pontifical Lateran University, a Bachelor of Civil Law from the Lebanese University (LU), and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Theology from The Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome. He taught canon law at Antonine University (UA) from 2002 to 2012, and is currently the Superior of St. Elie convent in Antelias, a judge at the Maronite and Armenian appellate courts, and a professor at the Faculty of Canon Law of Sagesse University (ULS). He authored numerous works on patrimonial rights, marriage and matrimonial obligations, religious courts, as well as on the OAM and the history of its convents.

Father Louis Rohban | 1995–2005

Biography

Born in 1931, Fr. Rohban joined the Antonine Maronite Order (OAM) in 1946 and was ordained a priest in 1961. He earned a Bachelor in Philosophy and Theology and received his PhD in Canon Law and Civil Law from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. Fr. Rohban taught law at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), Sagesse University (ULS), the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome, and the Catholic University of Lyon (UCLy). He also served as the prosecutor and defender of the bond at the Maronite tribunal. He passed away on May 31, 2018.
