    22 February 2024
    Maqāmian Sufi Concert for Palestine

Join us for an extraordinary evening of music and solidarity as the Faculty of Music and Musicology (FMM) at Antonine University (UA) presents the Maqāmian Sufi Concert for Palestine. Under the esteemed patronage of H.E. Judge Mohammad Wissam Al-Murtada, Minister of Culture, this concert aims to express the FMM’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people amidst the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The program of this concert takes root first in Palestine by the musicalization of dedicated poems written by Saleh al-Dasuqi and Muhdhil ibn Mahdi al-Ṣuqūr. It is then rooted in the poetry of mystical love by Rābi'a al-'Adawiyya and Al-Ḥusayn ibn-Manṣūr al-Ḥallāj. It is also a testament to the levantinity of the modes-maqāms of the artistic musical tradition of the school of the Arab Renaissance, through the endotraditional compositional approach of Nidaa Abou Mrad, Dean of the FMM, as well as the improvised hermeneutic interpretation by the voice of Rafka Rizk and the qānūn of Ghassan Sahhab, both faculty members at the FMM. Together, their collaborative performances will transport you to the spiritual realm of Maqām, evoking a profound sense of unity and empathy for the Palestinian cause.
