UA has been showcasing unwavering dedication to the SDGs since 2017, engaging in a diverse range of initiatives aimed at contributing to their achievement. Notable examples include:

SDG 1: No Poverty

  • UA actively engages in community service initiatives, such as collecting and distributing food and clothing to individuals and communities in need.

 

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being

  • UA has organized 3 editions of the Wellness and Mental Health Week, which promotes mental well-being among the community and raises awareness about the importance of mental health care.

  • UA organized a snowshoeing activity, providing students with the opportunity to explore the winter landscape through a guided snowshoeing escapade. By participating in this adventure, students improved their physical well-being, developed environmental awareness, practiced responsible outdoor habits, and strengthened community bonds.

  • UA offers the Diploma in Mountain Guide and Outdoor Activities to graduate a new generation of mountain and outdoor practitioners. The program aims to equip students with skills related to nature, adventure, and mental wellness. It also focuses on mountain environment protection, sustainability, and mountain rescue.

SDG 5: Gender Equality

  • UA is committed to reducing inequality and promoting equal opportunities for all, with a policy set and implemented to foster gender equality and create a more inclusive university community. In addition, initiatives such as ensuring gender equality in all positions and participating in the European project, WE4LEAD, aim to create a more inclusive and equitable society.
  • In honor of International Women’s Day, UA organized the “Women in Gold” panel to celebrate the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of women from diverse backgrounds. This initiative has fostered gender equality and empowered women to realize their full potential.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

  • UA organized a workshop exploring the symbiotic relationship between the environment and digital transformation in business and education. Students examined the mutual influence on global human life, discovering innovative solutions and opportunities.

  • UA takes part in an annual beach cleanup in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Human Environmental Association for Development (HEAD), and several universities. The objective is to raise awareness about environmental issues, engage the community, and minimize pollution’s harmful effects on coastal ecosystems.
  • UA is implementing various measures to create an environmentally friendly campus, including the installation of recycling bins, designated smoking zones, and the expansion of green areas.

 

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

  • UA is implementing various measures to create an environmentally friendly campus, including the installation of recycling bins, designated smoking zones, and the expansion of green areas.
  • UA has partnered with STOP Plastique, an NGO focused on reducing plastic waste. This collaboration aims to tackle the issue of plastic pollution through joint initiatives and awareness campaigns.

SDG 13: Climate Action

  • UA has established the Green Club, a student-led initiative that organizes and participates in activities such as tree planting, recycling campaigns, hiking trips, and awareness sessions on various topics related to Goals 13, 14, and 15. The Green Club is affiliated with the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and is part of its Clubs Leaders Étudiants Francophones (CLEF).
  • UA organized a workshop to deepen the understanding of bee biology, honey production processes, and the diverse range of honey varieties found in Lebanon. Participants also had a honey tasting experience with 5 Lebanese honey varieties.

The objective is to raise awareness about environmental issues, engage the community, and minimize pollution’s harmful effects on coastal ecosystems.

  • UA offers the Diploma in Mountain Guide and Outdoor Activities to graduate a new generation of mountain and outdoor practitioners. The program aims to equip students with skills related to nature, adventure, and mental wellness. It also focuses on mountain environment protection, sustainability, and mountain rescue.

Moreover, the SDGs are prominently displayed in the central gathering area of UA’s Hadat–Baabda Campus, with the purpose of raising awareness and promoting a deeper understanding of these global objectives among the community.
